Mattthew Burke to Burke to take final bow for Geordies
Cassandra Murnieks | August 05, 2008
FORMER Wallaby Matthew Burke has returned to the north of England for what amounts to a testimonial tour for the retired Newcastle Falcon.
Burke will be Newcastle's guest of honour at Friday night's clash with Super 14 side, Western Force. He played 58 games for the Falcons and amassed 373 points to become a crowd favourite.
But after a 17-year top flight career Burke has no regrets and admits to enjoying a quiet beers on Friday nights.
I'm enjoying the finer things in life now, having a beer on a Friday night, watching the footy on TV without having to worry about prepping up for the next game, and I'm enjoying it so far, he says.
It's given me a whole new perspective which I don't think you necessarily get as a professional player when there's always that next game to prepare for. I'm now the old bore at the end of the bar, saying it was better in my day, but I'm thankful for everything.
