From the Falcons' site:

“At this stage in pre-season most of the work is fitness-based. We have had a week or so of rugby-specific training, but the bulk of the rugby work will be done over the next five weeks before the Guinness Premiership season starts. In that respect, what it means for Friday is that the game is very much a part of our training rather than our first proper match of the season, but still it will be a useful exercise and we're looking forward to seeing how the boys go.” (director of rugby, Steve Bates)

The two big things are that its an ELV game so we come into it at a bit of an advantage and that the Falcons (IMHO) have one of the weakest packs in the GP. They have mostly relied on some decent backs (many of whom are injured or aren't playing). I think the numbers heavily favour the Force.

Saying that it is a home game for the Falcons and Newcastle is the kind of place that has as many sunny days a year as Perth has rainy days. So home crowd advantage will be a big factor.

Yup, ground might be quite damp unless they have spectacular drainage... it's rained non-stop for 2 days (and nights) in Edin, don't think it's been much better in Newcastle.
