A high-level Western Force delegation will attend this weekend’s Singapore Sevens rugby tournament to discuss the club’s participation in a high-quality, four-team tournament there after next year’s Super 14.
Former England and Lions hooker Phil Greening is behind the proposed week-long event involving English powerhouses Saracens and Gloucester, the Force and either the NSW Waratahs or New Zealand side North Harbour.
Force chief executive Greg Harris heads a contingent of administrators plus players Junior Pelesasa and Chris O’Young.
Meetings have been scheduled with the Singapore Rugby Union, the Australian High Commissioner, and tourism and business groups.
Club sponsor ET Marine has established a Western Force bar at Boat Quay this week for the club to use as a recruiting base to expand its Singapore supporters club.
“We’re based in the world’s most isolated city and the logical place to expand our brand and business is South East Asia,” Harris said.
“Singapore is a major commercial hub and has a big expat community which we’re already tapping into.”
The stalemate over the expansion of the Super 14 finals to six teams next year has not been broken and consequently the four-team format will remain in place.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
Apart from anti Tah'ing, I would hope they don't play as we know that style of play well enough.
Plus having been unable to control their clubs enough to sustain the ARC they don't deserve any off season assistance
The Force would be better of having a Kiwi or even French team in the mix.
Love the concept though.

61 years between Grand SlamsWas the wait worth it - Ya betta baby
I hope it does happen. Would be great for the game in Asia if it did.
Plus it gives me a reason to go for another holiday to Singapore.
I was going to say that maybe the Saffas could be in it if they need rugby between s14 and the internationals. Then I saw the phrase "high-quality".

Great concept as well as choosing two great playing ambassadors to be invited to represent TWF.
Great concept - hope it goes ahead.
Wonder if Pumpkin could let us know of any local media coverage about this.
