Toulon hire World Cup winning coach Jake White as emergency consultant
From correspondents in Toulon, France, November 26, 2008
SOUTH Africa's World Cup-winning coach Jake White has been hired by struggling French Championship club Toulon to advise them on where things are going wrong.
The 45-year-old, who quit the Springbok post after guiding them to victory over England last year, will only be at the club from December 3 to 22 to advise manager Tana Umaga as the big spending club is languishing in 11th place in the championship.
"Even I have my limitations and may still be in certain respects a president of a Second Division club, who for so long dreamed of gaining promotion," conceded club president Mourad Boudjellal, who has poured millions of his personal fortune into the club and saw it gain promotion last term.
"I want to find out what is not working and that is why I have looked outside the club for an opinion."
Boudjellal had turned to former Australia handler John Connolly but he only lasted two days as Umaga was unhappy with his appointment.
