Sexy Sammie keen to kick a goal for Hottest 7s
DANIEL BOURCHIER
January 11th, 2009
WITH stunners like Sammie Pangquee as the face of the Hottest Sevens competition, there will plenty to look at off the field when the competition comes to town this month.
The 18-year-old bombshell has been selected as one of seven glamorous faces of the competition.
The troupe will host the dozens of international athletes who will converge on Darwin on the weekend before Australia Day.
They will be charged with showcasing the Top End and ensuring the Vic Hotel-planned events are the hottest in town.

"We are here to show them our Territory lifestyle," Ms Pangquee said.
"We will host the events during the weekend... especially the after-party.
"I love sports, and jumped at the chance to be involved.
"I am a hockey player and am big in to sports, this is an opportunity to support another sport."
Ms Pangquee said she hopes the work by herself and fellow Hottest Seven babes proves positive for the Territory.
"I really hope they will get that Darwin is serious about sport, especially rugby," she said.
"I hope we can put Darwin on the map for its sport, and people."

I attended the Darwin 7's for 5 years in the early 90's as a team manager for 2 teams. Katherine Lions Rugby Union Football Club NT and the Christians Rugby Team.
An excellent competition and a great party weekend.
You haven't seen anything until you see the MudChooks "chooka" or the Christians deep in Prayer to the beer gods before loosing yet another game - The Christians always loose. That is their game plan.
If you ever have the opportunity I would suggest you go and watch some great 7's Rugby.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
I was fortunate enough to play in the Australia Day Seven comp in Darwin a few years in a row back a few years, maybe 2000-3. No as for them saying it will be hot, is a little understatement. It is the biggest workout ever, since most games are played during the middle of the day!!
The good thing is that this competition is even better than it was when I played, they have so much more sponsorship now than they did say 8 years ago!!!!
It is a hell of an experience to go to Darwin, let alone play rugby up there. If you plan to go sometime you should!!
All I can say is I hope the Darwin Sevens comp keeps getting bigger and bigger.
Any WA teams heading up?
I vote - GIVE US A RECTANGLE STADIUM!!!!!!

2009 ‘Heineken Hottest 7’s in the World’ Seedings and Draw Announced.
The organising committee for the Heineken Hottest 7’s in the World have finalised the seedings and draw for the 2009 tournament, following the registration of 28 Men’s teams and 7 Women’s teams
In the Men’s draw the number one and two seedings will be of a truly island feel, with dual winners South Sea Drifters deserving the top seed. The team features the nucleus of the Fijian 7’s squad and includes legendary 7’s player Waisele Serevi as player/coach.
Number 2 seeds are Island neighbours the Digicel Samoa Barbarians. This squad are made up of players from the Samoan national 7’s squad and are using the tournament as a key preparation for the IRB 7’s world series and World Cup 7’s in Dubai in March. The team recently won the prestigious Punta A Del Este tournament in Uruguay.
Last year finalist Aussie Spirit is seeded 3 with URL Samurai International seeded 4 after members of the squad winning the Dubai International Invitation tournament in December. Squad has a true international flavour with players from New Zealand, United Kingdom and Australia and are captained by leading IRB Points Scorer, Ben Gollings.
Seedings 5-12 include three strong Fijian teams in Davetalevu (4 time winners), Red Rock, the national squad of the Hong Kong Dragons, Uprising Beach Resort, Global Fiji Samurai consisting of players from Fiji, New Zealand and Australia (with former NZ 7’s star playmaker Amasio Raoma Valance). Along with Sydney Premier clubs Gordon and Randwick, and the invitation team from NSW and Queensland, Country King Browns.
The women’s draw is will be the battle for spots in the Australian squad to compete at the Rugby World Cup 7’s championship in Dubai. Zonnators has been seeded 1 and are the nucleus of the Australian squad from Sydney. Number 2 seeds are the Red Stingers from Queensland, who feature the Queensland Australian representatives and Darwin’s own Bo Del a Cruz. East’s Tigers seeded 3 with three New Zealand representatives and premier players from Brisbane.
