There are talks afoot of Gregan being rested for the Wallabies Spring Tour to allow Knuckles to assess our depth at #9 and to ensure that Gregan is fully fit and refreshed for the World Cup year.
Is this a high risk for Gregan or a smart move by management to ensure his availability in France?

I always thought it the obvious move, whether George liked it or not. I'd be surprised if he is the only one left behind too. I'd certainly be resting Bernie (which would certainly give the various 10s to aim at during the APC), as well as Vickerman and possibly Mortlock to allow any niggling injuries to clear up. I'd probably take Latham, but I'd be tempted to limit the amount of time out on the field.
It is a fairly soft tour, so the real question is whether you try to identify some additional props and hope one of them really sticks his hand up.
I dunno if it's a 'smart' move, but it is a good move. He gets a rest which *may* see him fit and healthy for 2007, and also it gives our other 9's a go. Win - win. What happens if someone else steps up to the plate and takes his spot is thge only thing Gregan needs to worry about, he can't captain if he isn;t on the team anymore ...
I'd like to hear the thoughts of who voted "I think he should stay home....permanently! "
I have said recently i have seen George play some of his best rugby in recent times. He has great leadership and respect within the team and within most of the fans. We'd be very silly and shortsighted to throw that away.
Giving him a rest, if that is what is required for him to play his best in his last world cup campaign, in my books, is a smart move!
He will have plenty of time in next years S14 games to warm up, plus all the tri-nations games.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
What tour is this? The fixtures I've seen are the hardest in the rugby calendar!!! Wales, Ireland & Scotland. C'mon the Celts!!!Originally Posted by AndyS
