Am I destined to watch rugby on my humble widescreen TV at home??
Is it really that hard for pubs in Perth to call themselves a “Sports Bar” then proceed to insult whatever game they show by stretching the 4:3 (square) image onto a 16:9 (rectangle) widescreen so that all the images (ie players) are out of proportion?
Ultimately I am after a pub in Perth that will:
- 1) Play live rugby; (yes there are lots of those around thank goodness) – but how many of those pubs:
- a. Have the commentary turned on so that people can hear it;
- b. Have the technology to broadcast events on other screens at the same time (i.e. live cricket, footy etc (very important for maximum viewing pleasure and to satisfy all parties!) - (i.e. as we discovered last week - Fenians in St Georges Tce is incapable of doing this) and;
- c. Display the image in the correct aspect ratio; (very important to me because I want to view the game how it's meant to be broadcast and watched)
So far I have only found a pub in Narrogin (god bless 'em!), the Vic in Subi and one of the screens at the Inglewood who have managed to figure this out...
Please add to the list or at least point me in the right direction in order to find my rugby nirvana in a pub…
Thanks

Carbon Bar at the Cas does all of the above !
Jbs is pretty good ... when you consider it doesn't call itself a sports bar!![]()

When I was at the leederville a few years ago ... 2006 i think, they had the rugby on, but I went there recently and it was wack ... dancing cages as what not ... so not sure if they still do the rugby thing before the younger crowd get in ...

vic park hotel does those thing, though im not too sure about the aspect ratio. after a few pints you don't really notice... they have a big screen plus some tv's around.
Thanks for all the feedback folks...
I thought I should add that I went to the Grosvenor last Friday (and the Inglewood for the 2nd game for that matter!)and the Grosvenor has now got it sorted!
All of the issues above were addressed (yes I know I am fussy!)
Strange though, as we had gone to the Grosvenor for rounds 1 and 3 (and plenty of matches in 2008/07/06) but they have suddenly changed their wide screens (as of last week) so now all the punters get maximum value
Coincidence? or is that a result of the "power" of the TWF forum...![]()
Check with your local rugby club if they've got a large screen TV and foxtel.
Better atmosphere too at a club.
I'd hate to take you out to dinner htbd! lol! esp if thats how fussy you are with watching th rugby! hahaha!![]()
