The Brumbies have cut Wallabies hopeful Josh Holmes and fellow halfback James Stannard from their 2010 playing roster.
The club ended a week of speculation about which two of its three halfbacks would be cut by announcing that Patrick Phibbs had been offered a one-year deal.
Financial issues mean the Brumbies only have room for two halfbacks in their 2010 squad with one of those spots going to Josh Valentine who signed from the Western Force this week.
Brumbies coach Andy Friend said it was a tough decision but one made in the best interest of the club.
"It was a difficult decision, we've got three quality players there," Friend said.
"We had a situation where only one could stay and that decision has been made in favour of Patrick Phibbs who I think has been one of our form halfbacks this year."
"He's a player with a lot of experience, he's been at the Brumbies for five years, he's got good game sense and good game control, and I think he'll add to our group next year."

Tough on Josh Holmes but he will do well at the Waratahs in time... interestingly they only offered Phibbsy one year contract... If the Tahs are smart they'll sign Holmes for two years...
Well they would still have to watch their numbers for the 2010 season and beyound. Also they may chase Bret from the force after his two years lol
I think you'll find that Holmes turned down the offer to stay, as a Brumbies bench warmer in favour of the Waratah bench were he may get more game time 2010
Chucky got screwed over again. Really hope someone picks him up and shows him the loyalty he seems to show for his clubs. He was patiently biding his time working his butt off at a club level and go next to no recognition. How are the Reds going for good scrummies?
He joined a local team hoping to get noticed, he got noticed and was picked up but still didn't see much game time and was then dropped in favour of Valentine. He moved to the Brumbies where he was shown a grand total of 8 minutes, not even in his position, and then he was dropped again in favour of Valentine...again.
Yeah, but, local club-wise, didn't he move from Paly to Uni?
Correct
Fingers crossed Phibbs and Holmes stay healthy this weekend as Stannard is set to be flying to London to play for the Australian 7's...good luck!
good luck indeed, put yourself in the shop window chucky, everyone else is doing it...
I would have thought that the Reds might have been interested given their problems at 9 this year...
I heard Stannard was looking at playing in the Currie Cup... this year...
