Kalgoorlie’s Bushwackers have claimed the 2009 Country Carnival crown with a comprehensive 29-5 win over the Dunsborough Dungbeetles in the Grand Final in Esperance.
Eight teams from various country regions in WA descended upon Esperance for the tournament, with the Redbacks doing an outstanding job of hosting the tournament. The teams that participated were: Bushwackers, Dunsborough, Boulder/WASM, Stormers, Esperance, Geraldton, Katanning and Collie. Other clubs present at the carnival but not fielding teams were: Albany, Dryandra Narrogin and Bunbury City Bulls.
The success and interest being shown in the Country Carnival was reflected in the fact that four venues were nominated at the AGM to host next year’s tournament. A decision will be made in the next couple of months once all proposals have been considered.
Geraldton’s effort in attending the tournament was greatly appreciated by the Esperance Redbacks, with a moving presentation to the Internationals at the award ceremony evening on Sunday night.
Well done to Greg Hunt and Chris Kirwan for their efforts in organizing this year’s country carnival and to all at Esperance who ensured a good time was had by all!
