Cottesloe RUFC could have twin reasons to celebrate this week, after flyhalf David Cloete claimed the 2009 PG Hampshire Award for Best & Fairest Player in the KWIK Senior Competition ahead of Sunday’s Grand Final clash with Palmyra.
The 25-year-old Cloete polled 30 votes in the count at the RugbyWA Awards Breakfast this morning, finishing ahead of Palmyra’s Filipe Manu (19) and Pierre Roberts of Perth-Bayswater (18).
Cloete and Manu, who is a member of the Emirates Western Force Academy, will go head-to-head when their teams meet in the Grand Final at ME Bank Stadium.
A prolific point scorer with a prodigious right boot, Cloete’s consistently outstanding performances throughout the season saw him poll in 11 games. He played in all 18 of his club’s round robin fixtures this year.
Palmyra coach Dave Ball capped an outstanding year by being winning the Coach Award. The men from Tompkins Park collected the wooden spoon in 2008 before turning it around to claim the Minor Premiership this season.
Sunday’s Premier Grade Grand Final kicks off at 3.30pm.
