The Brumbies Under 16 squad will head to Sydney on Sunday to contest the 2009 National Under 16 Championship at Sydney’s Riverview College.
Eight teams – NSW Schools, Queensland Red, Sydney Juniors, Queensland White, Victoria, Western Australia, NSW Country and the Brumbies – will vie for the Rod Macqueen Shield at the championship which runs from Monday, 4 October to Friday, 10 October. The Brumbies boys first match will be played against Sydney Juniors first up with the results determining who their second opponent will be for the Wednesday match.
The side has already played trial matches against Victoria, NSW Country and Sydney Juniors, and will complete preparations for the Championship with a match against Western Australia at Griffith Oval tonight at 5.30pm.
The side features five scholarship holders from the Australian Rugby Union’s National Talent Squad, with Captain Tom Cusack, Lewis Holland, Billy Chalker and Carl Elliot, all members of the program that provides professional weights and training sessions for talented players between the ages of 14 and 18.
