From: AAP January 20, 2010 2:39PM
ALL Blacks back Sosene Anesi will get first crack at the Waratahs fullback spot in their opening trial against Queensland in Lismore on Saturday.
Anesi, who can play either fullback or winger, has made one Test appearance for New Zealand, moving across to NSW from the Chiefs.
The Waratahs other major off-shore recruit, South African-born emerging Springbok lock Hendrik Roodt has been named in the second row.
Former Junior Waratah's vice-captain Rory Sidey, who played in Wales during the last British season, has been listed at outside centre.
The wing spots have taken by former Brumbies speedster Peter Betham and Nemani Nadolo, Lote Tuquiri's cousin, who will make his first NSW appearance after a foot stress fracture sidelined him for the Waratahs 2009 campaign.
Five-eighth Daniel Halangahu has been confirmed as captain.
His partner in the halves is Josh Holmes, who has returned to the Waratahs after a spell with the Brumbies.
The only current Wallaby squad member selected was lock/flanker Dave Dennis, who played in the two midweek matches on the spring tour.
Dennis was originally expected to start off the bench but was promoted to the starting side to give New Zealand-born former Cam Jowitt an extra week to recover from thumb surgery.
Waratahs: Sosene Anesi, Nemani Nadolo, Rory Sidey, Tom Carter, Peter Betham, Daniel Halangahu (capt), Josh Holmes, Locky McCaffrey, Chris Alcock, Dave Dennis, Hendrik Roodt, Kane Douglas, Dan Palmer, Damien Fitzpatrick, Jeremy Tilse. Res: Luke Holmes, Ofa Faingaanuku, Chris Thomson, Will Caldwell, Brendan McKibbin, Ben Seymour, Adam D'Arcy, Paddy Ryan, Dylan Sigg, Hugh Perrett, Tom Azar, Alex Rokobaro, Jacob Woodhouse.
