Geraldton Rugby Club stacks up
from Midwest Times, August 24, 2006
Geraldton Rugby Club enjoyed a significant win against Cottesloe earlier this month, proving their side is not inferior to the metropolitan teams.
Playing recently in Perth against the Cottesloe Rugby Club 4ths, Geraldton dominated game play to win 39-15.
The match was the first of two clashes held annually between the teams.
Coach Warren Abrams said the matches between the rivals were "usually pretty tight" and Geraldton's substantial win was notable as a result.
"For a country team to win so convincingly against a team that has more access to resources is pretty impressive," he said. "We've been training quite intensively this year."
Tries were shared liberally among the team members with Angus Lambell, John Savill, Bahsrie Byron, Ben Watson, Patrick Whitehouse, Rodney McLennan and Scott McLennan scoring.
Geraldton half-back Garrett Kelliher was awarded man of the match after putting in an outstanding effort on both attack and defence.
Geraldton Rugby Club will meet Cottesloe again in a home game to be played at La Fiamma SportingClub on September 23.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
I always thougth Gero was a strong AFL crowd. Gotta be deckies?
I understand it is sort of a "districts" set up with players coming from thoughout the Mid West, including off the mines if they live in Gero.
They are trying really hard to get up to a level that they can join a comp rather than just playing one-off's against the likes of Cott and the annual Police fixture.

Imagine the road trip, if they played in districts comp in perth, what a beauty that would be....Imagine having played all day, gone to after match function, then stocking the bus for the trip home....Reminds me of the old Army vs Griffith clash back in the Riverina, three hour bus trip almost, but nearly four and a half on the return leg as we had compulsory pit stops at every hotel on the way home, and believe me, there were a few.....And i forgot to mention the numerous comfort stops between pubs....
