The Hurricanes are counting the cost of beating the Blues last week with with wing Hosea Gear out and first-five Willie Ripia in doubt for their first match at home which is against the Force.
Hurricanes coach Colin Cooper's biggest concern is Hosea Gear as he is one of their biggest strike weapons and suffered knee cartilage damage in Friday's 34-20 win over the Blues at North Harbour.
"He doesn't look well," coach Colin Cooper told the Dominion Post.
"He won't be playing this week, but we just need to get confirmation on how serious it is."....

never nice to lose good players but this could help even up the odds a bit for us!![]()
Willie Ripia is a loss only to be replaced by Arron Cruden......not good for the Force.
Hosea looked really good on the field ast week ut wingers and backs are a dime and a dozen in that part of the world.
Oh bugger, now they will be worried, prior to that we were lulling them into a false sense of security, it was all part of the greater plan...

Eaton dropped for protocol breach
2/18/2010 12:36 PM
Jason Eaton has been left out of the Hurricanes 22 for the match against the Western Force due to a team protocol breach
All Black lock Jason Eaton is being punished for a breach of the Hurricanes' team protocol.
Eaton has been omitted from the Hurricanes squad that will play the Western Force at the Westpac Stadium on Saturday night.
Hurricanes management says it is an employment matter and there will be no further comment. Coach Colin Cooper has also refused to give any details of Eaton's indiscretion.
"Jason broke team protocol. We're pretty hard on team protocol so if you break it, that's the consequences."
Bryn Evans and James Broadhurst will now make-up the second-row, with Michael Paterson moving to blindside flanker.
David Smith takes over on the wing from the injured Hosea Gear, whose injured knee was operated on this morning. He faces six weeks on the sideline.
All Blacks number eight Rodney So'oialo is back in the Hurricanes side on the bench.

So who has Taken Davids spot on the other wing?
Pretty sure he was bench last week Zim?
Recall him being listed there unless it changed on match day?
They certainly don't lose anything with Smith playing, he is seriously quick and elusive!
Bit of a bonus with Eaton, one of the Kiwi's I love to hate (think he did something obnoxious post try one year or some such) but I rate him pretty highly.
We must have sent the bad luck over to Wellington, wonder who else will breakdown...

Tell me about it. I got off to a flyer last week as well. Worked Thur & Fri - the system at work strangely won't let anyone surf to Foxsports - and I ended up with 3 injured players - none from The Force.
They'd need to lose 7 regular first picks now anyway.Originally Posted by shasta

Cannes are getting cocky (kiwi sides do that!!! look at the Crusaders a few yaesr back!!!) ..... they are resting players for the game I reckon!!!! watch out here we come EWF by 5 points
Yep, whip Gear into hospital, make a couple of cuts, bit of a bandage, throw him on crutches and make it look like you're resting him. He's a cunning bastard that Colin Cooper.
