Sam Harris's role for this week is simple.

    In defense, defend.

In attack, JOC will be 2m away waiting for a pop pass to run the backline, failing that Tatapu will be there to hit up. (no passing over 10 metres and we are fine )

although im still worried he will be kicking, or maybe we will see more box kicks this week. What we should of done is picked up Lovett on the way over, he is off contract i think.

Eaton left out of Hurricanes after spat with barman

Eaton left out of Hurricanes after spat with barman
By TOBY ROBSON - The Dominion Post Last updated 05:00 19/02/2010SharePrint Text Size PhotosportPAYING THE PRICE: Hurricanes lock Jason Eaton is paying the price for an alleged altercation with a barman, being stood down for a game by coach Colin Cooper.Related LinksHurricanes discipline lock with stand down Waldrom, Evans coming back for more Ryan Cross ruled out of Force team Get off the grass, Hurricanes fans told Force in strife, lose Pocock, Brown Hurricanes' win came at a cost Relevant offers

Eaton has been stood down from the Hurricanes Super 14 match against the Western Force tomorrow with team management saying only that the lock had breached team protocol and that the suspension was an employment issue.

The Dominion Post understands the action has been sparked by a letter sent to the New Zealand Rugby Union complaining about a verbal exchange at a bar.

It is unclear when the incident happened, but Hurricanes coach Colin Cooper said it had not been after the opening match against the Blues. Whatever the case, he was making no apologies for holding his player accountable.

"Jason broke team protocol and we are pretty hard on team protocol so if you break it, those are the consequences," he said.

"It's our protocols, that's why he's not playing. [It was] serious enough to be not given your jersey."

Asked if the suspension would be for only one match, Cooper said: "At this stage, yes. He's got to sit and wait now.

"He's given someone else an opportunity now in James [Broadhurst], so he has to sit outside the 22 and wait and see what happens."

He was disappointed a senior player had broken protocol and said the decision not to reveal the offence was not out of the ordinary.

For Eaton, it is a disappointing result after an eye-catching start to the season against the Blues at North Harbour.

The 27-year-old battled back from a serious knee injury last year and appears to be nearing his top form after a solid northern tour with the All Blacks.

The sidelining of Eaton has resulted in Cooper installing a new locking partnership of Bryn Evans and 2.03m rookie James Broadhurst to play the Force, with Michael Paterson moving to the blindside to take the place of Nick Crosswell, who drops out of the 22.

The other change to the side that started in the 34-20 win over the Blues is on the wing, where David Smith replaces the desperately unlucky Hosea Gear.

Gear had surgery yesterday after scans revealed torn cartilage in his knee and he will be out for up to six weeks.

"He didn't know the circumstances till yesterday [Wednesday]," Cooper said.

"He was rushed in [for surgery] straight away and was lucky to get that done today. He is pretty disappointed, he had a great preseason and his form went through to the Blues game."

Ad Feedback In the reserves, All Black veteran Rodney So'oialo returns to action after a month in the gym, while outside back Andre Taylor takes Smith's place in the match-day 22.

Paterson's move to No 6 should strengthen the Canes' lineout, with hooker Andrew Hore having three specialist jumpers to choose from as well as No 8 Victor Vito at the set piece.

Meanwhile, utility back Jason Kawau has had surgery to clear his sinus, while prop Anthony Perenise (calf) and lock Jeremy Thrush (shoulder) were not considered because of their injuries.

As it is O'Connor will have his hands full with Jane, who is renowned for his kick/chase and prowess in the air - last thing you want is to give him a free pass.
True, but by sticking JOC at fullback, we are taking the most creative player we have and putting him in a position where he wont get as much ball, and wont have the ability to control the game. With Harris at 10, you have a very one dimensional player (he was never signed with the intention of him being the starting flyhalf, he was signed to cover the inside backs should the worst happen, which it has) guiding the team around the park. With Harris at 10, we are playing an even more restrictive game plan than the Tahs did last year with Carter at 12. Our forwards will at the very least match the Canes forwards, giving whoever plays 10 front foot ball. But with Harris at 10, we didnt look like scoring a try last weekend. With JOC there, we will look much better in attack. The Canes are typically a very unstructured team, who throw the ball around. If we play a structured game against that, we may be able to contain them, but wont score, hence wont be competitive. I believe the best way is to try and play structured in defence, but in attack really throw caution to the wind. Maybe that means having JOC sitting at 15 in defence and 10 in attack? But I think this will give the best option to win the game.

I think in reality we just don't have the Backs to do as you suggest farva.
The involvement of a #15 comes down to a Coaching strategy and I have little doubt that JO'C will have instructions to be more involved than usual for a Fullback however, his primary concern is to take advantage of the hail of ball that will be sent his way by foot.
Even with JO'C at #10, we would still be seeing the Force play a very Forward orientated attack. To take the Canes on at their own "caution to the wind" with the seven Backs we have available would be team suicide.
It is a matter of getting the right balance for a given opposition and I believe this is as close as we can get given the players available.
