Vince Lombardi, the famous American Football coach once said
“Leaders aren't born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal.”
and in times of crisis any group of people tend to look for a leader.
2010 was that time of crisis for the Western Force.
As the injuries mounted in the first weeks of their Super 14 campaign their leader, Nathan Sharpe stood up.
On the field he was inspirational as week after week he tried his heart out to overcome the shortage of manpower the Force had available.
And off the field, who didn't feel for him as week after week he fronted the media cameras and apologised for their loss.
But the fans stayed and here on TWF they voted.
Therefore, the Whole Force Supporters Choice - Player of the Year for 2010 is
Nathan Sharpe
But he wasn't there alone. Other players stood up. In particular Matt Hodgson was a supporters favourite and polled right up there with Sharpie.
And when he got back on the field David Pocock polled well.
Honourable mention must be made of Ben McCalman who was the highest polling rookie for 2010.
A function to present Nathan with his trophy will be held just prior to the start of the 2011 Super 15 season.
