ANOTHER Melbourne player could be lost to the NRL, with rugby union pushing hard for in-form three-quarter Dane Nielsen to switch codes.
The Daily Telegraph understands Nielsen has fielded a handsome offer from the Western Force.
It's believed the Perth-based outfit's advance is financially superior to those put forward by Cronulla and New Zealand Warriors, the two NRL clubs thought to be in sole contention for Nielsen's services next year.
Should Nielsen take up the rugby offer, he'll become the fourth Storm player to quit the NRL since the salary cap scandal broke. Jeff Lima, Brett Finch and Ryan Hoffman are all close to signing deals with UK Super League front-runners Wigan, where they will reunite with former Storm assistant coach Michael Maguire.
Speculation has also been mounting that prop Brett White is poised to accept a three-year deal at Canberra. However, a well-placed Victorian source said last night the Storm were reluctant to release White because their front-row stocks had already been decimated.
"They've already lost Aiden Tolman and Ryan Tandy [Bulldogs], and Jeff Lima won't be there next year either," the source said.

Hope it isn't too lucrative a deal, I had to look him up and at 25 he's had a fairly mundane career with not much more than a handful of matches.

Maybe he's quick....we could do with some of that!

Can anyone shed some light on the possible rationale for this bid? Just asking.

it is the courage to continue that counts.

I was thinking that they wanted someone who could run straight (since he's from League), but since we have Inman maybe it's a backup for him incase he gets injured?
Even if he hasn't been stellar for the storm, he would still be a solid backup - which we need now that Cross is gone. I don't think we have anyone else for 13 that could run straight and not drop 50 tackles.
I don't count Spanners because he needs to run at 12.![]()
Off the top of my head, he has only had a very short time in League, but if I recall correctly he has some very big fans in the Channel 9 Commentary team who seem to think he will be the next very big thing.
I have not seen him in action. So really can only offer the above as comment.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
does he have a union background?
I think his uncle was a shop steward once.

what position does he play ? I am afraid ex league stars in union go agaist the grain ......name one that has really done well ? or hasnt got into trouble sometime!~
Thorn and Barnes... Chambers had a massive first year too
From memory he just wanted to play for the All Blacks, but I bet the Reds must be wishing they found a way to keep Thorn in Brisbane!
Be quite happy to see #4 Thorn, #5 Sharpe packing down in green and gold this weekend!

Three Storm players have just been announced as signed by Wigan: Ryan Hoffman, Jeff Lima and Brett Finch.
He's played 27 first grade matches for The Storm. Played 80 mins in all all bar 2 this season when injured and 61 form the bench when returning. 6 footer and 99kg who's clocked up 7 meat pies - hard to get a look in with Slater, Finch and Inglis getting all the set play glory. Good defender and a straight runner. Been in the Storm program for quite a while and learned his trade in the Queensland Cup. We'll see how he goes. Our other three mungo centres were a mixed bag. Cross, Tatupu and Josh Graham.
