The best players from the KWIK Premier Grade rugby competition have been selected for the 2011/12 Perth Gold squad that will play three games on home soil as well as embark on a three game tour to the East Coast in February and March next year.
Head Coach Dwayne Nestor and Assistant Coach Elwee Prinsloo kept a close eye on the KWIK Premier Grade throughout the 2011 season and have announced a squad of 38 players.
“We’re confident we’ve put together a strong side and it’s reflective of the performances the players have put together over the season,” said Nestor.
“A larger squad has been selected to encourage competition for places and to give standout players the opportunity to be selected in the Emirates Western Force A team.”
A mixture of youth and experience has been included in the squad as well as some new faces on the Perth local rugby scene in Rhys Peakman from Rockingham and Teava Te Rangi of Wests Subiaco.
2011 PG Hampshire award winner Anare Koliavu from Palmyra and runner up Nathan Roberts from Nedlands will bring experience in their second year playing for the Perth representative side.
Training will commence in November in preparation for the matches in February and March in 2012.
Nestor said Perth Gold was another opportunity for the best players in WA to showcase their talent and to gain experience at an elite rugby level.
“Perth Gold is a very valuable step in the elite player pathway and something that WA local rugby supporters should get behind,” Nestor said.
