its just a trial match... its more important for the coaches to try a few combos... and a give few young lads a run... nothing more... the end scored doesn't really matter...

Brumbies easily account for Force in trial

    February 4, 2012 - 11:09PM http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news...204-1qz7r.html

Brumbies coach Jake White has enjoyed a dream start with his new Super Rugby side after they cruised to a 25-0 trial victory over the Western Force at Rugby Park in Darwin on Saturday night.

In what was the first trial match of the year for both teams, the wet and windy conditions contributed to an error-riddled performance.

The Brumbies were first on the scoreboard when lock Ben Hand breached the Force's defence to touch down late in the first quarter.

The Brumbies' second try came after the Canberra-based side strung together seven phases before inside centre Christian Lealiifano crossed, while five-eighth Zack Holmes booted three first-half penalties to extend the lead.

The Western Australian side showed more composure in the third quarter, however the Brumbies defence held firm despite being restricted to 14 men when flanker Peter Kimlin was sent to the sin bin for a late shoulder charge.

Workhorse Brumbies prop Jerry Yanuyanutawa was prominent for the Brumbies before taking a heavy knock and coming off the field after 30 minutes, while Nic White slotted two second-half penalties to complete the emphatic win.

Hopefully we're just lulling the Brumbies into a false sense of security for the first match of the season! Theoretically our guys should have done a lot better in the trial match. It is better to have the wake up call now though rather than the first game of the season.

I think this year we have the opportunity to be a star team, rather than a team of stars. Hopefully some of the culture we've built up amongst the forwards can rub off on the young back line hopefuls and we can build that winning culture we all so desire.

Maybe this can be the year of BRAND Western Force rather than BRAND JOC...

Apart from the fact that it was a trial match and different coaches have different agendas - playing a bunch of club players in the final quarter gives you an idea of the Force agenda, kicking 5 penalties rather than playing for tries gives you an idea of the Brumbies agenda - the Brumbies pretty much played their A team (which granted, is actually their B team coz they have no A team).

I trust we learnt a thing or two and that the team bonding experience is also valuable to the Force fellas.

The match was lost by the time the Force clubbies came on

All the sledging of Muddies Brumbies for the spoon seems to have blown up in some local faces

Getting belted and not troubling the scoreboard attendant is never a good sign.....trial or not

Richard Graham isn't a good coach. Jake White is

How did the mungoes end up Shasta?

What is worrying me is the mounting toll of injured players from pre season again, two weeks before kick off. Cummo is at least one casualty from tonights penalty a thon. I hope we can field a close to full strength outfit against the Reds....and use some of the plays the team has been training with in a competitive environment and not go into the comp unprepared.

32 - 28 to the Allstars. Not a bad game either. They used an interesting rule variation. Instead of blowing penalties for PTB infringements the refs called "zero tackle" and re-started the count. The match flowed pretty nicely as a result.

I watched the 2010 Reds trial from LMSC earlier today. We belted them in that game and yet when it came to the season proper we fell apart. It is embarrassing not to score a point, but I will still happy peg money on the Brumbies for the wooden spoon. Save your gibber jabber for after the first game of the season Rex.

"I am really pleased - we put a lot of effort in," White said.

"The Brumbies haven't won for a while ... it doesn't matter if it's a trial game, doesn't matter if people think it's meaningless, all those little wins, all those little bonuses help you move forward.

"The bottom line is to have two teams playing, one team scored 14 points and doesn't concede any and one team scores 11 points and doesn't concede any what more does a coach want?

"The Force are always going to be a good side obviously there were a lot of things we let slip in the beginning but I thought the enthusiasm and energy was good."

Western Force coach Richard Graham said his team lacked the physicality that the Brumbies brought to tonight's game.

"(The Brumbies) physicality was very good," he said.

"They defended well and worked the tackle. You could see a strong South African influence - their forwards were very direct, very aggressive."

The Force spurned the opportunity to take penalty goals, instead preferring to give their scrum a chance to show their skills.

"The result was not necessarily important to us - we want to win, but the whole reason we came here was to play as much rugby as we possibly could," he said.

"(We wanted to) put our set piece under pressure and then see how we attack and defend off the back of it.

"I was very happy with our young back row."
