In July 2008 Williams left Australia to join French Rugby Union club Toulon and less than four months later, New Zealand defeated Australia 34-20 in the final of the Rugby League World Cup. It was one of the greatest upsets in the history of the sport and Williams was no where to be seen.
This hand shake Williams refers to must be sweetened at the prospect of playing for the Kiwis after missing out in 2008. It would have been very hard for him sitting back in Toulon with Umaga, wondering what the bloody hell have I done when watching the Kiwis destroy the Kangaroos in the final.
Q. Will SBW make the Kiwis WC Squad for England and Wales in 2013?
I’ll definitely be watching a few more league games in 2013 and can’t wait for SBW verse the Dogs.

It might depend on how long he signs to play in the NRL for - if he only signs for one season he might be out of contract by the time the league World Cup comes around.
Pretty strong claims out of NZ that he's NZ rugby bound again in 2014.

I heard he was signing with Greater Western Sydney in 2014...
