I missed the match in South Africa yesterday but it sounds like I would have been a tad disappointed with the performance. Hopefully it will be somewhat improved next week in Rosario.
If you have problems with the download of the attached, just let it download about the first 20-30 seconds before you start watching. Just a few photos I took during the visit.

nice
I have a real dose of the wander lust again
10 years ago I circled the globe but didn't make it to Machu Picchu
Might have to follow the wallabies next year and kick on
what's the best time of year to avoid the disappointment of cloud obscuring the ancient city?

Not sure about sunshine. Climate in the Andes is somewhat unpredictable. Best time to avoid hoards of tourists appears to be late September and October. My perspective is that it is better to be there when the weather is representative (ie mist rising from the valley) - it seems to add to the experience, especially early morning when most of the shots were taken.
The mist didn't really obscure the city, it just made it look like I'd been drinking - ie somewhat foggy
I got the first bus up to the site at 5:30 am. Nice and tranquil for a couple of hours. Then the Americans turned up![]()
Aren't you supposed to do a 4 day walk? Did you sook it and go cattle class?
Some people I've met walked for 4 days and couldn't see a farking thing for clouds. Looks like you did OK though

I took the train and met some nice nipponese ladies along the way :-) Plus a young guy and his new bride who were also from Japan. He played rugby so we had something to talk about for a while. Being a good new wife she pretended to be interested
I stayed two days at Machu Picchu and it felt like I'd walked for four days by the end of the second day. I got the first bus up the hill from Agues Calientes at 5:30am on the second day, hoping to see the sun rise. No chance. Mist rising from the valley below and low clouds over the surrounding peaks. Still, I would not have missed it for anything.
Today it's on to somewhere in Argentina (oh yes, Iguassu Falls) then down to Rosario for the rugby at the weekend. I knew there was some reason I was here ........
Great scenic photos and interesting travel stories....................
Did you get your end in?

Rex. First with the questions that matter.
which end would that be then ??
Now in Puerto Iguazu. Pissed down all day today. Forecast for the same tomorrow. Didn't come here to sit in a bar all day so I just did the planned itinery and got a tad damp. Especially when the f@c$ing boat went right under the waterfall. Wasn't expecting that.
Down to BA/Rosario on Friday. Got my boots all shiny just in case ....
instead of mist covered mountains, we'd like some photos of barely covered peaks.
Send us some babe photos.
All this sight seeing stuff is getting dreary. Show us the talent
