The 2012/13 IRB World Sevens Series is underway in Australia, with England missing out on the Cup quarter-finals after a dismal Day One at the office.
Pool A: South Africa 9, New Zealand 7, Canada 5, USA 3
Pool B: Australia 9, Fiji 7, Tonga 5, Scotland 3
Pool C: Samoa 9, Kenya 6, England 6, Spain 3

What a terrible turn out. We would have filled a stadium (I hope).
From what little I watched no commentator mentioned the bad turn out.
Couple off good Aussies there though.

Day 1 crowd was 12558 (people spend time out the back at the bars too - it's a very social day).. Day 2 will be about 10000 more. That will bring total attendance to near 35000 in its second year. These events take a couple of years to build. In another 2-3 years, this will be heading towards a sellout.
Those crowd figures are less than what they used to get in Adelaide....

I love the look of that ground on the Gold Coast though! Reminds me a bit of the Rebels' ground.
Wonder if that's what we'll end up with at NiB??!!
