A mate just sent me this Youtube link - a movie about Perth from 1954
Very interesting stuff for those Perth-ites among us
How they pronounced Mundaring back then....
some will say,nothing has changed
interesting to note the narrators of the day had to have that affected English accent
We arrived in Australia the year before that film was made....
The old man was a fitter and turner working on the oil refinery construction.
I remember Perth and environs just as depicted.
God that made me feel old.
I thought you were the guy cutting down the tree for a second Frank, then I realised it was instead the head slaughterman at Harvey Beef. :-)
"Believe in the best, think your best, study your best, have a goal for your best, never be satisfied with less than your best, try your best, and in the long run things will turn out for the best."
It must have been alot colder in Perth in 1954 the way the people are dressed!
That's fantastic Ecky - thanks for posting :-) How times have changed - imagine felling trees like that these days; or having bus conductors put your pram onto the pavement for you after unhooking it off the back of the bus!
Proudly Western Australian; Proudly supporting Western Australian rugby
Thanks for the linl Ecky, I seem to remember a lot of that film. The bus and ferry as well a sHay St being a through road. The beauty of history.
The view from Kings Park was a lot better then.
Amazing how some historical pieces remind me that spinning the truth is not a recent development. No mention that it can be a hot dry bastard of place, just lovely scenes in spring time.
