From the Super Rugby Facebook Page
''On this day in 2005 Former England Rugby and All Blacks coach John Mitchell was confirmed as the first coach of the new Perth based Super 14 franchise, Western Force.''
How time flies
“Everyone knows whether it’s rugby, politics or whatever, front-rowers should rule the world, so to have a hooker at the helm makes sense,” Nathan Charles Western Force & Wallabies Hooker.
If only we knew then what we know now....
Its incredible how fast time past.
For all the doomslayers that were and are still out there, we are still alive and breathing in a AFL dominant town.
We have had the privldege of seeing legends like Sharpie, MCaw , Carter, ... too many New Zealand, Australian and SA legends to name here, playing here "live" and plying their trade.
We may not and probably will never be the best or one of the better franchises but we have enjoyed an incredible journey and will continue to do so.
To Geoff Stooke and his team at the time a big thank you for what you did and achieved and heres too many more years of watching the game they play in heaven being played on our doorstep by some of the greatest talents of all time
Simon Cron: “People talk about winning and losing all the time and they are critical, but there’s a process to get into and it’s the ability to stay present, do your job and execute skills under pressure.”
Take an old school coach like Mitchell over the pansie RG anytime
“In 1823, William Webb Ellis first picked up the ball in his arms and ran with it. And for the next 156 years forwards have been trying to work out why.” - Sir Tasker Watkins (1979)
3 coaches in 8 years - some other franchises would be glad to have such a record of stability!
