wow ... that's a new low for even you South Africa
The Springboks, the Proteas and Bafana Bafana will be banned from representing South Africa at international events if 60 percent of the on-field team is not made up of black players.
Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula said that a new quota for black player representation would come into immediate effect as there was a "lack of willingness in implementing transformation, especially the enforcement of quotas".
Mbalula had a meeting with provincial MECs over the weekend, where the decision was taken to up the quota system from 50% to 60% representation of black players across all the national teams, especially rugby, cricket, football, netball and athletics.
The new quota would take effect immediately, with the rest of the resolutions to be implemented before the new government takes office following the May 7 general elections.
The sports mininster said that any sporting body that fails to comply with the new quota would have its funding pulled and the ministry of sport would block any sponsorship of the sporting code. The bidding and hosting of sports events would also be illegal without government approval.
"[We will] withdraw the national colours of any federation that is hell-bent on the current set-up and status quo," Minister Mbalula said in a Times Live report.
"The Minmec [ministers and MECs] recommended that it must happen right away. We are going to engage and inform rugby and all the other sporting codes that this is something that has to happen.
"[We will be demanding] development plans from the South African Rugby Union, South African Football Association, Cricket South Africa, Athletics South Africa and Netball South Africa as a matter of urgency and with immediate effect."
"Transformation is not going to be easy so we have to talk to them. I have instructed my people to engage the private sector equally because they are the biggest investors in sports transformation and sports in general," he said.
The SA Rugby Union and Cricket South Africa have called for more clarity on the new resolutions, while Sasco president Gideon Sam and Lions cricket coach Geoff Toyana were in favour of the new resolutions.

Chuck Norris has the greatest Poker-Face of all time. He won the 1983 World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoly card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game Uno.
I'm not even gonna get in to it.... what a load of shit!
Great game, Fucken battled right through to the 80!
Wow!
9 out of 15 players in rugby or 6 or 7 out of 11 in cricket.
Well we will have more players available to play for the Force. Bloody stupid IMO.
The same as their Uni's it doesn't matter if you have better qualifications if your white you will be dropped to make up the quota with an under qualified black. I hate to think what the Drs and Lawyers are going to be like in the next few years.
May the FORCE be with you!
Politics and sport do not mix, crazy situation over there.
On the only bright side of it I can see is that it can only be good for future Force recruitment![]()

Education is Important, but Rugby is Importanter!
Australia and New Zealand should impose a trade embargo again and include all international sports that involve South Africa.
Threaten to cut them off until players are selected for their talent, not the colour of their skin.
Sounds like they wanna go down the same path as Mugabe.
A scary thought indeed.
That's disgraceful
Politics and sport should not mix
Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
Blatant racism.
If a white government official came out and declared that 60% of players must be white. There would be hell to pay.
Boils my blood.
Hypocrites
wonder if there is a white quota for their soccer team?![]()
Outrageous. But, sadly, not surprising given the way the SA government is going under Zuma & his cronies.
I hope this is a belated April Fools
Japan and the Pacific Islands for Aussie Super 9's!
Let's have one of these in WA! Click this link: Saitama Super Arena - New Perth Stadium?
This proves that old formula:
Politics + Sports = Stupidity.
Will be very sad to see SA sport nosedive, could take the sports years to recover their lost standings internationally. Mandella I am sure would turn in his grave
I have to say it is a bloody shame to watch, but the pragmatist in me says there is a hell of an opportunity there for Australia in general and WA in particular. They are a first world country intent on limiting opportunities to the best educated and useful sections of their society, particularly areas in which there are persistent deficiencies here. Many will opt for Europe, but in my experience they make excellent migrants and Aus should be as welcoming as possible.
