Australia 7s captain has questioned the fitness for rugby 7s of the likes of Israel Folau as rumours begin to fly about recruitment for the Olympic Games.
AUSSIE skipper Ed Jenkins warned potential Olympic recruits such Israel Folau would need plenty of time to get fit enough for Sevens as the first steps to Rio were taken on suburban oval in Glasgow.
“It’s funny when you hear a Wallaby will jump in and find it easy. It’s a completely different game,” Jenkins said.
“Someone like Izzy would have the skills and all that, but he’d have to come across early just to get that conditioning level.
“We bring players in all the time who are great athletes but they do one week of Sevens and pull up with torn hammies and back problems. It takes time to adjust to adapt to Sevens and the running loads, backing up to play six games over two days. It is not just a shortened form of the 15s game.”

How much money do the ARU spend on sevens? I'm curious as to how much they would save, if they only sent a sevens team to the World Cup, Commonwealth Games and the Olympics? I wonder how much is spent on being part of the IRB Sevens Series every year?
