The former IT manager of RugbyWA has been spared immediate prison, despite admitting to frauds totalling more than $50,000 including some involving his former employer.
Benjamin Dollery, 25, told the Perth District Court he had wanted to pay for the "perfect wedding" for his fiancée, and began using his computer knowledge to access the RugbyWA invoicing system to obtain property which he then sold for cash.
He also sold his company car for $20,000 via Gumtree in what Judge Gillian Braddock described as a "colossal breach of trust on many levels".
Dollery wept in the dock of Perth District Court today as Judge Braddock said she would suspend an 18 month prison term for two years, while ordering him to repay RugbyWA, a finance company, an insurance company and the person who bought the car.
She said the frauds, which were carried out last year, totalled more than $52,000, were totally out of character and appeared to be motivated by the pressures of Dollery's impending nuptials, the fact his fiancée was pregnant and an urge to provide the "perfect wedding".
"You seemed to think this was too easy ... But now the reckoning comes," Judge Braddock said.
Dollery said nothing as he left court.

idiot.
There's no justice like angry mob justice.
What name does he post under on this site?
I give up,tell me!
I can't, I'm not an IT man!
Got to love white collar crime. If he had stolen fifty grand at gun point what is the bet he would of gotten a harsher penalty.
Kids stay in school even if you really want to be a crook, you can steal much more and if you get caught the prison time is much less.
None that I can recall, though there have been guys flogging alcohol and quiz night tickets. I can't recall what they needed the dough for though.... One that I know of is already happily married.
But I think it stretches the bounds of credibility to intimate that an IT guy from RugbyWA wouldn't be paid to be monitoring this site on a daily basis to see what manure I and a few others have been heaping on their deserving heads over the years.
And he would have to register to get the "hidden" information about other posters.
Anyway, I wasn't seriously suggesting you breach his right to confidentiality, thief and scoundrel that he is.
But anyone who stops posting about now is going to be under a cloud of unwarranted suspicion!
Hasn't StoneCold got a wedding coming up??
