The data below shows how Aussie No 8s have performed up the end of Round 9.
At this stage, Scott Higginbotham, Ben McCalman and Wycliff Palu appear to be the best Wallaby options.
Scott Higginbotham has the lest amount of ruck data. However, as for the others the data in the lower table is the average of all game time up to the end of Round 9. Overall his stats are impressive. He and Ben McCalman have the lowest Impact on their ruck involvement. Ben McCalman has double Scott Higginbotham's rate of TOW. Both have the highest Tackle Effectiveness: missing a tackle only every 2nd game played. Ben McCalman has the highest Penalty rate.
Wycliffe Palu has shown good consistency this year but has one of the lowest Tackle Effectiveness - missing a tackle every game and has the lowest TOW rate
Ita Vaea has some impressive stats with the highest rate of TOW, from the highest level of Defensive ruck involvement. He too misses a tackle every match. He appears to not be used as a Line Out option.
Jake Schatz has been a strong Line Out option for the Reds and has one of the highest Tackle counts - but misses a tackle every match. In all other aspects he shows the lowest levels of performance.
