"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
Let's assume there were 4,000+ due paying members of the Western Force this year.
Averaging out for different membership levels, that's over $2,000,000 in subs.
Normally, the invitations would have gone out in October to renew memberships or become new members, and over the next month or so, $2,000,000+ would have found its way into the RugbyWA/ARU coffers, but not this year (unless the Western Force's fortunes change dramatically).
That's over $2,000,000 of discretionary spending which no longer has a home, possibly more if there had been a boost in memberships for 2018 resulting from the Force's relatively good performance in 2017.
I wonder where that money from Force memberships will go in 2018?
NRL @ NIB. Community Rugby bars. Origin tickets and flights. Bulldogs ditto.
Really hope WA community Rugby doesn't suffer like post war League did. Has not recovered fully after 20 years.
Great article - heartening to read the replies on gagr from those in other states, and the depth of feeling.Trust this can all be harnessed as it is a moment to be seized
When this first started, I think I said I will still support the Wallabies and Spirit. (If the unthinkable occurred)
I now look at my Wallabies jersey I got when I went to 2008 Sydney Bledisloe (Wallabies won, I was so proud) with contempt. How could I wear such a thing anymore. What does this jersey even represent?
I will continue to support the Spirit until the so called custodians axe them to apparently benefit rugby.
I already paid up to the Boks game in Sep and unless we win the appeal I can safely say thats my last. So much for goin to Japan in 2019 to support... To be honest I dont even know who to support next week
Nice work Gaffa, it is well worth noting that supporters of other Australian teams are also aghast at this disgraceful and corrupt decision - as we can see from the comments following Gaffa's article. Unfortunately I suspect that may dissipate over the next couple of weeks as the media moves onto whatever will be the next sorry sports saga. Unfortunately the sick feeling in the guts will last for us here in the West.
