Perth Rugby Club are to be congratulated for their efforts in putting on a great afternoon of 7's rugby today.
The only disappointment is that it was not fully supported, with only a few clubs participating. Of the first grade clubs, Cottesloe University, Western Suburbs, Wanneroo and Rockingham did not participate at all, and Associates only sent an undermanned colts team. None of the third division clubs saw fit to send a team.
Be that as it may,Nedlands, Kalamunda, Perth, Palmyra and the Force Academy treated the small but suportive crowd to some top rugby, with several clubs puting in more than one team.
The competition was even, with few big scores. Perth was the top colts team and defeated Nedlands in the final and the Force Academy had a good win over Palmyra in the open final, 3 trys to one.
To be fair, Palmyra were not helped by having to play an extra game to the Academy, and then having to play the final 15 minutes after their last game, the Academy having the luxury of an hour and a half rest.
Never mind, all games were played in great spirit and the clubs that took part will have benefited from the experience before next Saturday's Tooheys New State Rugby Sevens at Perry Lakes.
TWF member RugbyFan was unanimously voted best Nedlands player and narrowly missed out on selection as player of the tournament.
JamesBrown, also an Academy player and TWF member was by far the best player for the Academy.

The tournament wasn't promoted to Referee's and strangely (& by that I mean politically) WA's most experienced 7's Referee was not advised of the tournament.
yes i did find the refing different normal sevens style reffing !! In sevens if ya put a high shot on or ya throw the ball away its a straight send off!! awell hopefully they will have some good ones for the Tooeheys sevens !!!
Refs were made aware of it last Monday - well some of us anyway.
You have to remember that us refs are not really used to 7s and probably reffed like a 15 a side game.
Much like most of the players played the games, really.
I thought the refereeing was of a very high standard. Two games in particular, but then I may be a wee bit biased.......
But well done to Perth Bayswater - a good little tournament and run in a very good spirit. Well done to all the players too - games played in good spirit too.
Worked OK for me, would have got carded under normal 7's rules. haha
