Craig Bellamy branded it the greatest win of his illustrious coaching career and now the cost of keeping the Melbourne Storm in this year’s competition has been revealed.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports the governing body had to spend $4 million to ensure the Storm could continue to compete in the 2020 season.
That included relocating both the players and their families to the Sunshine Coast, including children who would go on to attend schools in the area.

I guess that better than the $30-$40 million it costs the AFL to keep each of GWS and the Gold Coast running.
I get the point, but that's more relevant to the hundred-odd million the Storm have lost over the past couple of decades. Money well spent by AFL in my view. They are getting an ROI in player development. Not so the Storm.
The cost of keeping the Storm on the Gold Coast (and the Kiwis in Gosford) might even be less than the cost of multiple "hubs" the AFL has had to absorb this year. Why anyone would think that's newsworthy is a bit unclear to me though. It's not like they had any real choice. The ARU are extremely lucky that AF saw merit in giving them a leg-up too.
