This is interesting.
I saw this on a FB post by Nick Taylor talking to an old mate Robert Messenger, a very respected rugby journo, who some of you may know.
I think this is the first time Nick has gone public with why he left The Worst. It explains a lot and what we are up against.
Has anyone who knows Nick spoken to him about his leaving.
I for one was sorry to see him go but good on him sticking to his guns.
Nice piece P&F. You could have mentioned that over here in WA we have the sole media owner having a very public stoush with the owner of the Force, hence even less coverage of rugby than before in The West Australian. About two years ago I was given an inside tip that the order had come from above that Force stories were only to be used when unavoidable, that they were to be cut short and placed as close to the obits as possible. I was then told Force coverage would be cut further because they were not spending enough on advertising. I was more recently told to write a Force story that was completely baseless because the man in charge had heard a "whisper" in Sydney. I refused. And people still ask me why I quit. Watch those in charge throw the weight of 7WM behind the expansion bid for an NRL club in Perth. A certain person in charge thinks the sun shines from the backside of the bloke who Jones rightly described as "the horse guy"
I work for FMG, and there is definitely a (not-secret) move away from westrac Cat, which is owned by Stokes. this is something like 120 haul trucks going to liebherr (it was all announced in the ASX ages ago.
And then there is other whispers and articles about the two not getting along, as well as their fall out on an east perth redevelopment.
The world is their (billionnaires) game, and we are but pawns...
Sad but not entirely surprising. I am not sure what the change to media and news could be, but we need to get more people paying for news, and from that provide better and impartial reporting. I read almost exclusively ABC, but that has it's own issues.
Good on ya Nick!
And the Robodebt Royal Commission gets even less coverage in the West than the Force.
Doesn't matter Gunny, just make shit up like I do.
You never know what sticks or hits a nerve.
Why, I even drew a response from "The Wests Comittee"? (sic).
If that's true, Stokes will need pockets as or deeper than Trump's mouthpiece. Murdoch is rumoured to have blown $5 mil+ per year for over 20 years propping up the Storm. And they kicked off with instant success. Any WA bid is no chance of surviving without that. And not much better with it.

No report in Channel 7 tonight. Given the result it could be a good thing this week.
Spoke to Nick the other day to see if he was coming to Melbourne which he was not.
He is writing for AAP and is also doing some stuff for Force HQ for the local comp once it starts, which keep a few here happier.
Apparently, The West ripped his byline from AAP before Reds game and didn't realize then had to remove it, of course this was picked up on TWF.
