RugbyWA is thrilled to announce the appointment of Carina Tan-Van Baren to the RugbyWA Board.
Ms. Tan-Van Baren began her service on the RugbyWA Board in March of 2024.
Ms. Tan-Van Baren has more than 30 years of experience as a lawyer, journalist, communications strategist and senior government advisor. Currently, she works as the Director of Corporate Affairs for Cannings Purple.
Previously, Ms. Tan-Van Baren has served as a Board Member for the Women’s Legal Service WA and for Greening Australia (WA) as well as a WA Committee Member for the National Environmental Law Association.
Ms. Tan-Van Baren has a strong interest in community development and is looking forward to helping build the profile and support for rugby and its community within Western Australia.
Ms. Tan-Van Baren will be replacing Charles Fear on the RugbyWA Board. The community welcomes Ms. Tan-Van Baren, and thanks her for her commitment to the rugby community in Western Australia.

Wow, Charlie is hanging up his boots, whistle, tie. Thank you Charlie for decades serving the RugbyWA community.
Genuine question ( to avoid confusion) could someone clarify for me the distinct roles of Chairperson v President please?
Have long wondered if President was like Managing Director in US talk (as per commerce), but then there is still a CEO which for an organisation of that modest size wouldn't be required to need both.
