A new thread for you all.
Let's read your favourite sporting quotes, from the inspirational to the insightful, that show a great knowledge of their given code or sport in general.
I'll start another thread for the funny ones and bloopers because there are some crackers there, especially in rugby, so let's try and keep this for the great coaching rants and the well timed commentary observation etc and, to try and give everyone a go, only post one or two at a time rather than downloading lists from the net.
I have a hunch that Larry may have a few stored up for here?
To get things started, from the great Babe Ruth:
"The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime." - Babe Ruth

If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score? -Vince Lombardi
If you can accept losing you can't win. If you can walk you can run. No one is ever hurt. Hurt is in your mind. -Vince Lombardi
Maybe one we should take to heart in the current circumstances, it can always get worse!!!
John Henry owner of the Boston Red Sox after breaking an 86 year drought in winning the 2004 World Series in Baseball:

And perhaps big Darryl Eastlakes best effort yet, commentating the winning lift by an Aussie in the 104+ Men:
"SENSATIONAL, SENSATIONAL, you beautiful big bugger...ha ha ha"
He probably annoys some but he has given me some great laughs over the last few nights!
