SA Rugby has confirmed the appointment of Eddie Jones as technical advisor to the Springboks. Jones will assist the team in this capacity until the end of their 2007 Rugby World Cup campaign.
The position was left vacant due to the recent appointment of Rassie Erasmus as the Professional Coach to WP Rugby.
Andy Marinos, Manager of National Teams at SA Rugby, described the appointment of Jones as a very significant step.
“He brings with him a wealth of international experience and knowledge, not withstanding that Eddie was also the Australian coach when the Wallabies lost narrowly to England in the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final.
“We believe that his vast knowledge of the game and his outstanding coaching credentials will be of great benefit and significance to the Springboks as they prepare their challenge for the Rugby World Cup crown.
“The team has already benefited from his involvement as a consultant during the past two weeks and we are really pleased and excited to welcome him on board,” said Marinos.
Jones said he was pleased to be part of the team.
“I am really delighted to help Jake and his team in their preparation for the Rugby World Cup. This is a very professional and committed unit and the players and team management are determined to leave no stone unturned in their planning,” said Jones.
