Over two years ago RugbyWA was in a frantic bidding war with the Australian Rugby Union in an attempt to get the fourth “Super” Franchise to Perth. They were up against the might of the sports loving capital of Australia; Melbourne, Victoria. Now it could be argued that one of the reasons for the RugbyWA bid being successful was the promise of the Western Australian State Government to throw $20 Million at Members Equity Stadium to make it suitable for Super14 Rugby.
But, another argument would be the number of Perth based rugby supporters who got together to show some people power. This was the supporter’s way of showing the ARU that they loved their Rugby so much here in this apparent Australian Rules football stronghold that they were willing to take some time out to show what people power is all about.
I think its time once again. But this time we are going to need some more help.
Living on the other side of Australia I get the impression that whilst there is a strong passion not only for the Western Force in Western Australia, there is also a passion for Western Australian Rugby as well. The other impression I get is that the State Government is of the belief that Western Australia is a one sport state. Unfortunately as much as we don’t like it, that one sport is not our beloved Rugby Union.
People power is what is needed, but we are going to need to become friends with some people that we may not see eye to eye with. My point is this – the development of Members Equity Stadium is not just for Rugby Union, other Western Australian Sports, and the wider Western Australian Community will benefit from it as well. This wider benefit is what we need to demonstrate to the State Government of Western Australia.
Western Force home games, Perth Spirit home games are only the beginning for the newly developed Members Equity Stadium. Perth Glory home games. The Finals of both the Western Australian Rugby Union and Soccer (sorry, Football) Top grades, not to mention Western Australian Rugby League and American Football (Gridiron). But what about Stadium sized rock concerts, surely there are more then just Rugby Union fans that are desperate for the redevelopment of Members Equity Stadium.
If we could get all of these fans at Members Equity at the one time shouldn’t the State Government of Western Australia stand up and take note of the number of voters that are desperately keen for this redevelopment of Members Equity Stadium. If the Governing bodies of all the above mentions sports could come together to present a united front that would show that WAFL bickering of a white elephant of a stadium that hasn’t even been allocated a location let alone the dollars to build it.
Its time the non-AFL sporting fans stood up and said with one voice, I am Thirty Five Thousand.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa

That rally at Subi where we spelt out Super 14 for Perth was great (I was in the first 'R'!) - something like that would be good to show the support for Rugby in WA
Laugh and the world laughs with you.......

What is meant by the development of Members Equity.
Does that mean flattening it and starting from scratch or bolting bits on.
Subi is not great for watching rugby but there is an atmosphere about the place. Members Equity in its current guise is not an inspiring stadium and I find it difficult to imagine how without totally rebuilding it from scratch and putting the right infrastructure in place that it will be worthy of a Super 14 stadium.
We need a world class stadium that we can be proud of, where internationals for various sports can be played. I can't see Members equity giving that.. wrong stadium in the wrong place. Are we just settling for Members Equity because it's the easy way out of Subi..

Need a place and time, how about ME stadium as a meeting point.
Let us know when and wher EXILE - I'll even pull my daughter out of school for this 'politcal' rally. Count us IN.
the re-development of MES to a 35,000 seat venue isnt what needed. we need to go bigger so we are not in a similar situation when the force are the dominant australian team in the competition. western australia is growing. so we need to build something thats going to be ahead of that growth. espically if the gridiron and leauge takes off. and ESPICALLY if the glory start winning games becase of the large number of english and europiean people that now live in western australia. maybe we coud even get some socceroos games over here?
a decent multi pourpose venue could attract concerts and other events to perth.
whenever this rally is taking place i'll be there!
I still reckon Burswood had the best plan, caters for all codes and events, plus a golf course and casino to boot...Rail and vehicular access, even ferry access is an option.
May as well go whole hog i reckon and why not use some of the Packer revenue as well...
Proudly bought to you by a brewery somewhere....
I agree 35,000 seats isn't enough.
If that's what they are proposing for MES that figure will definately be reduced, it always is. Something always crops up whether it,s financial, health and safety, environmental, infrastructure around the stadium, transport issues, change of design, it's easier to reduce the number of seats than add cost in by increasing them.

pity that when belmont racecourse closes down its going to be made into a residentual area.
I don't care where, give me a date and time, I'll ring in sick, We'll stand in the middle of Langley park spelling out 35000 for all I care!
It just needs to happen
