A good honest player in my opinion, certainly made the most of his abilities.
Betsen announces international farewell
January 17, 2008 - 5:40AM
France flanker Serge Betsen says he is retiring from international rugby.
"I have decided to end my international career," the 33-year-old told a news conference in Clichy-la-Garenne, a town outside Paris where he honed his skills before moving on to Biarritz, his current club.
Betsen earned 63 caps and won the Six Nations three times, including two grand slams in 2002 and 2004. He played in two World Cup semi-finals in 2003 and 2007, losing both times to England.
His tireless tackling made him a popular figure in French rugby. He said he would quit playing for Biarritz at the end of the season.
Betsen became the latest of a string of seasoned players to leave the international stage in the wake of France's semi-final defeat by England at last year's World Cup.
Hooker and captain Raphael Ibanez, lock Fabien Pelous and wing Christophe Dominici have all said they would no longer play for France.
