    A couple of articles below - a few points I picked out...

    - Final recommendation for participants goes to the board tomorrow.
    - Eastern Suburbs and NSW Country apparently entered as a consortium.
    - That bid and the North Harbour Rays bid both secured about $350 000 in backing.

    AUSTRALIA’S national rugby competition is set to involve nine teams including a sensational merger between Randwick, Eastern Suburbs and NSW Country.

    The National Rugby Championship (NRC) is in the final stages of completion, and is all set to kick off in August, heralding a new era of third-tier rugby in this country.

    The most dramatic development is that Randwick and Easts will merge with NSW Country to form a powerhouse franchise that will have a supporter base far and wide.

    Randwick had been working on a proposal to field their own team with support from the University of NSW, but have decided that merging with rivals Easts and the strong Country bid will create one of the top teams in the inaugural year of the NRC.

    Just been announced comp will start in August and run for 11 weeks 9 team as below.

    Brisbane City
    Qld Country
    North Harbour Rays
    Sydney
    Greater Sydney
    Melbourne
    Perth
    Canberra
    NSW country

    9 team competition with four home games and four away games and 1 bye.

    Semi finals and final.
