Morale at the Western Force has slumped after Michael Cheika knocked back their offer to take over as head coach. On top of that is uncertainty over whether their captain David Pocock will remain, or head east, most probably to the Brumbies. Perth sources have told Ruck & Maul some players have lost faith in the Force's chief executive Vern Reid following assurances that haven't come to fruition. Cheika recently visited Perth and notified the Force he had been approached by the Waratahs, but he preferred to give the Force the right of first option as NSW ''talked, but promised nothing''. It is understood Cheika left the Force meetings impressed, with ''the only thing to be done being the paperwork''. So some players are privately blaming officials for missing out on him. Cheika is now being pursued by Ireland team officials. But there are still powerful NSW identities eager to lure Cheika to Sydney and the Waratahs, especially after Michael Foley was linked with the Force. It is known at least one Waratahs director is interested in pursuing Cheika. He continues to refuse to comment on the coaching issue and is understood to be back in Paris, where he was recently coaching Stade Francais.

I think regardless of whether it is true or not, Vern has to go. With possible exception to the move to NIB, which was really the only option with crowd numbers and costs, not one thing has improved with the Force under his reign looking from the outside.

Completely agree James. All roads seem to point to Vern, not just with this fiasco but the whole shebang really.

RugbyWA really could do with a totally fresh start from 2013 after hitting rock bottom this year. And the top would seem a good place to start.

Vern didn't have any impact on the nib move that I'm aware of Greg Harris was the big push in that direction and stookey was chairman at the time. I think Vern would have been fringe, if anything

Salary/conditions given to applicants

Candidates who would actually want/need to do job apply

Interview/short list said candidates
Select best candidate according to selection criteria / interview process

But NO
instead we are begging a guy who would only come as last resort , not only that, he is naming his price no doubt completely unrelated to any improvement in force results.

Forget him, let's get someone who wants to come and is capable. Wants to come here and is willing to put some personal investment into the fortunes of our team, whichever way it goes..

I have been saying Reid is a waste of space for months........2013 will be last year for the force they are f ked...be realistic guys....sponsors arent going to come with a a balls-up like this etc
