IMHO they gave Stiles the Reds gig because he wouldn't want to come back to Perth and the ARU wanted him in a Head Coach role. It was always between him and O'Connor for mine with the leftovers heading here for a show down with Scott Wisemantle for the Force gig.

Given they'd already brought O'Connor back from (was it) Ireland, you'd have thought he'd have been the incumbent.
I thought stiles also would have been too tarred by RG to get the gig.

He must have put together one hell of an application & interview!

What's the issue with O'Connor? I'm legitimately asking. From a (very external) perspective he has good overseas experience, apparently technically strong. All I've heard is he rubbed a few Reds players the wrong way.....

I'm not sure the poll is populated with the names of actual candidates. I think it's more a list of who people like/think might get it along with a heaping spoonfuls of piss take

His time at Leinster was not as good as the records show. He took over a top notch team from Joe Schmidt, and to quote some of the Leinster supporters he did nothing but send them backwards.

"The next Leinster coach doesn't have to be as successful as Schmidt but must at least play a better brand or running creative rugby. If that occurs, given the quality in this Leinster squad, success should follow.


"We can thank Matt but I hope nobody starts romanticising his tenure at Leinster where he took the best running team in Europe at the time and ran their creative running streak into the ground.

This is not what the force need at this time.

Matt O'Connor has pretty comparable win stats to Michael Cheika as coach of Leinster 65.7% vs 65.6%. A better loss percentage of 26.2% compared to Cheikas 31.3%.

This in no ways shows what relationship he had with the players.
