TWF Inaugural Quiz Night 2006 - COMPLETED

I had a couple of discrepancies raised with my answers on Saturday night and I have checked them this morning.

First one was what is MMDXCIII when converted to arabic numbers, I had 2613 as the answer but it is incorrect, it is in fact 2593. I must have been a bit lexdyslic and used MMDCXIII which is 2613.

Second was what number Olympiad is the Beijing olympics? My answer was the 29th which is correct. XXIX is on the official www.olympic.org website! The reason it is 29 and not 26 (which was suggested) is that despite missing 1 game during WW1 and 2 during WW2 - they kept counting the games as if they had played them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Games
At least I got that roman numeral conversion correct!!


Finally a few people though my answer to "what is the earths outer layer of surface soil or crust called?" being the Lithosphere, was incorrect. A few people thought the Lithosphere was part of the atmosphere, trust me I have confirmed this also, if we were living in part of the atmosphere TIF wouldn't have to visit the perfume garden quite as much!!!

Oh, by the way, I have a cap in my house signed by Matt Giteau which JK left on Saturday night and as possession is nine tenths of the law it is all mine....mine I say ah ha ha ha (manic laugh, if you didn't get it) It was a nice friendship while it lasted JK.

Just a quick clarification.....the crust is still called the crust and there is no other name for it, well apart from the hard bit on the earth's surface but I haven't found that mentioned in any of the geographical tomes I have read recently. However, the Lithosphere is actually the outer portion of the earth’s circumference which includes the crust and the outer layer of the mantle, which is solid. So, I'm afraid to say ( ) you are wrong again Happy.

Well the winners have now enjoyed the spoils of victory (and what a victory it was!).

There was a 100% turnout by Gerry's team.....




The food, from the Naked Kitchen & was fantastic as always (and not a bad selection of wine!)....




Oh, and then there was dessert......




Of course, we couldn't forget the boys who didn't quite make the grade at the Quiz Night....
