Well an informed decision?

There are numerous, if not tens maybe hundreds of countries around the world who have been implementing DLS for decades! I don't believe that their lives have all fallen in a heap??!!

You know why they don't complain about the idea because one they didn't have a choice, their government just brought it in; and two they are used to it as it is part of life.

Why is it so difficult to embrace change and move forward in WA? The implications of introducing DLS are all individual mindsets which are ill informed and unwilling to be moved in most cases.

The introduction of DLS is not going to ruin WA, it is not going to ruing the lifestyle here (for a lot of people it might even improve it). It is a little change, nothing is being taken away from the individual. You will get used to the idea, and think nothing of it in 5 years (as long as it is brought in).

Noe of this is how it will benefit me, or anyone else, this is simply "well it's not that bad". So exactly why should I support it? Simply because I am able to tolerate it is not a reason.

I just got off the phone to a client in Gascoyne Junction. Mean (aka average) maximum temp for the first 3 weeks of January was 45.2 Celcius.

They don't like DLS at The Junction.

which means they are all in the wrong timezone, so we should just change move all countries one timezone along.

I hearby declare that the entire world shall now move their clocks to Greenwich Mean Time in order to remove the tyranny of different time zones. Buisness shall now flourish and the global economic crisis shall be solved with these few taps on my keyboard.

One the mean temperature doesn't change with DLS - would still have that same mean temperature at the junction whether or not DLS was introduced. However I don't believe DLS should be introduced above Geraldton, but that would be difficult!

No if a country has DLS this doesn't mean they are in the wrong timezone! All it means is they would like to use the hours of sunlight they have more effectively. It has nothing to do with moving timezones along since you would need to change again when winter came along, since you would been in 'summer time" when winter came along.

In the end it comes down to latitude (thats the one right) and the fact that we are in a different position in winter and summer with respect to the sun. In summer there are much more hours of sunlight than there are in winter.

by "the almighty one" are you referring to wilson tuckey, who suggested something similar, in that all of australia should be in the one timezone (suggested quite tongue-in-cheek of course)?
