I've found neither side of the DLS argument to be strong enough to warrant anything other than a conscience vote by the people it affects as to whether it stays. I guess the govt feels the same way, thus a referendum.

My kids haven't missed a beat with the extra daylight - they go to bed at the same time as always. Also means they get no benefit from DLS either as I make 'em go to bed by the clock (which is what our society runs by) not the sun.

I had DLS as a kid before moving here - it didn't really rock my world then either.

Also means we are only an hour different from QLD which makes my excuse of 'sorry, Mum - I thought it was a bit late over there to call' even more feeble than it currently is.

All my work communincations are based in KL and Singapore, who are on our timezone with no DLS.

I'm not against it per se, and I could rattle off another dozen minor annoyances, but only personally having a few equally minor positives kinda lends itself to a 'Nay' vote.

Now if there were an option to swing it the otherway so I can get up early and get stuff done during the early light of teh day before having to go to work etc and enjoy cooler evenings or having a BBQ dinner under the porchlight rather than with the sun beating down - there'd be just as many minor annoyances, but a few more of those minor positives and I'd probably vote 'Yay'

What has the shops got to do with being out in the sun? Unless your one of or ever have been one of those pathetic "mall rats"

even the people in the office towers start early nowdays so their 8 hours co-inside with the eastern states 8 hours.

you are kidding me? My Core Hours (as in my hours that I have to be here) are 8:30 till 16:30, making it 10:30 to 18:30 Eastern. I'm sure you find many other examples similar to mine. For Office hours to match people would be starting at 6/7 am here for a 8/9 start in the east. Or without DLS 5/6 for an 8/9 start

i was all for DLS when we first began the trial, but we dont need it.

I was always for it. even when I was starting at 5am and working in a Warehouse that on very hot days got heated to about 45-50 degrees (rule of thumb was you add 5-10 degrees on the outside temp). No where near the coast I might add

i'd rather the clocks go an hour the other way. so i can sleep when its actually dark. as opposed to being in the car driving to work

Interesting a couple of nights ago (bracing for the conspiracy theories already...) that both GWN and C7 ran yes-no telephone polls through the news (I think over 24 hours) GWN was around 82% no and C7 was around 79% no from memory, both way higher than I would have imagined.

Seriously though, wasn't the last referendum 53-47 or something? Something's amiss with the 'Pulse of Perth'.

Western Australia adopted daylight saving in 1974, but abandoned it following a referendum in 1975. It then reintroduced it in 1983-84 only to abandon it again following a referendum during 1984. A further referendum in 1992 stopped it being introduced again.

The referendum results being:
1978 46.34% for it, but 53.66% against,
1984 45.65% for it, but 54.35% against,
1992 46.86% for it, but 53.14% against.
