Surely no-one can make DLS an election issue now - 4 times the people have said "no". That should now be so far beyond the backburner that it will take 10 or 15 years to come back.

Extended trading hours however - different story.

But didn't extended trading hours & Sunday trading both get knocked back in referendums? Perhaps we should do away with referendums as a means to getting an 'accurate' opinion on what the average Western Australian wants. I mean how many 18 - 25 year olds even bothered to vote on the DLS referendum? And how many of them would actually want it, quite a few I'd imagine. I know when I went to vote, it was like I was in a queue for the bingo hall, average age was about 105 and they certainly don't give two hoots about DLS. The referendum system is completely flawed, the hope is that everyone will vote, which they don't. Huge sections of the community are either oblivious or ignorant of referendums or completely disinterested. The result does not represent what the average Western Australian thinks and therefore referendums should be scrapped or reserved for trivial issues such as the name of the new stadium or something.

I think a lot of people were in favour of that until they realised we'd lose out on a public holiday - The Queens Birthday. Which, incidentally, they don't have in the UK!

Yes to the Republic PH was irelevant as we would have subbed it for republic day
