Surely the very fact that DLS is considered a good idea in NSW and VIC is enough to consign it to the historical scrap heap here in WA
Personally, DLS is elegant proof that even a genius can have a bad idea.
I voted against it and don't think it should be brought in, we've survived this long without it!

Do I have to vote in a referendum?
Yes, if you are correctly enrolled to vote, you are obliged to vote. The same rules apply if you are voting in an election or a referendum.

To understand the arguments you need to understand the geographic implications.
For ease Australia is only in three major timezones however it actual geographically covers five. The main reason that the East have it is that their population centre is along the coast, which means they are actually in a different timezone to say Dubbo or Wagga Wagga. They do run out of "daylight". If you go to Brisbane in summer the sun is going down somewhere between 6-7pm from memory.
Now on the flip side, on the West coast we are so far west that we should also be in another timezone compared to Kalgoorlie-Port Hedland eastward. The sun goes down at Geraldton 20 minutes after it does at Meekatharra. So, when the east move to daylight saving they are only actually getting what we already have, being on the west side of our timezone we already have daylight savings all year.
I would argue that a better method would be to move the clocks back in winter so that there is some evening light then.

How bout we simplify it and just let you decide which parts of the constitution and legal system don't suit you. Then you can just change them with the stroke of a pen. Save a lot of time that way. Only problem I can see is that you first have to get control of the armed services before you get to be a dictator.

actually if another attempt is made I suggest if the hours were adjusted during october/november then again march/april,thus avoiding the hottest months, there may be some chance of majority support
It's irrelevant whether you are obligated or not. There are thousands of people out there who don't know voting is obligatory or don't care. We still need their vote. The people that do vote are generally well informed, responsible and appreciate the significance of voting. So you end up with a hugely flawed voting system. The result does not reflect what the average Western Australian thinks, it reflects what the average voting Western Australian thinks, which is very different. We pay politicians lots of money to make decisions for us we don't need referendums, especially when it is so flawed, exemplified by late night trading getting knocked back.
