    Dear my mate my member,

On behalf of the many Rugby supporters of your electorate could you please ask the following question of the Perth Stadium Project Team.

If the Queensland Government can build a rectangular stadium of 27,000 capacity for $160 million.

And if the Victorian Government can build a rectangular stadium of 31,000 capacity for $267.5 million.

How come they are saying that a rectangular stadium for Perth would cost $460 million.

And if they come back with the lame answer of "escalation" ask them what the hell they mean.

    Yours etc....

I think price escalation is the code word for we don't want to do this so we'll kill it before it gets to the table - seriously if the pollies can ask the Treasury those questions to and make em look stupid they'll get a buzz out of it too.

    My Effort:

    Dear Colin and Paul,

I voted for you guys because Colin indicated in an article in the Sunday Times that he would consider building a rectangular stadium in Perth.

I'm a Force supporter and it saddens me that their attendance figures are dropping because everyone hates Subi for Rugby. Don't see the proposed retractable seating as an option as it will never be used once AFL sees the damage the seating will do to it's playing pitch.

Lang Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - interesting link as it shows crowd figures (similar to Perth) and more importantly INTERNATIONAL soccer and rugby fixtures.

And that's why I'm urging you to consider giving Perth a Rectangular Stadium - AFL is not an international game it brings few tourists , nor is it a game that appeals to most immigrants from South Africa or Europe. AFL does not give Perth the International exposure that having strong Rugby and Soccer Teams give (these sports will help maintain strong immigration into WA).

Carps government promised the Rugby Community $25 million to redevelop Members Equity Stadium - and then didn't deliver - we really have a chance to give Perth a new industry - Sports and Tourism - which once running properly should be self sustaining (decent crowd figures in a semi decent stadium) and the Kudos that they will bring in the future, very important as the commodity boom wanes.

Mr Rudd wants the Soccer World Cup in Australia in 2010 - the ARU have put in 2 bids for both the 2015 and 2019 world Cups - if Perth had a smaller rectangular stadium capable of viably holding some of these fixtures and/or the Commonwealth Games how much fun would that be -we wouldn't be known as Dullsville anymore. From everything I have seen this new multipurpose stadium is only suitable for AFL - again Mr Carpenter was tripped up very quickly when he said it could hold the Commonwealth Games - it's not suitable for that either - it's also too big and expensive for Concerts.

Before the Force came to Perth I never went to Subi; we travelled over East to see rugby games and we nearly moved there too.

    Well done WNC team.

Didn't see the WNC posts GIGS - it's been pretty quiet there for some time. E mails on the way.

Unfortunately escalation of construction costs has actually happened especially over the last year.
We've had projects where the steel costs have doubled since they had the quote for the initial project and some developers are having to make huge prepayments to actually get hold of the steel.
I'd still like to see an actual budget for these projects, but if the media is to be believed, the stadium near the old ent centre in the city has had huge cost overruns already!

Well the best I could figure out it was the Task Force's way of accounting for cost overruns in the future, so given that the 35,000 seat rectangle was going to be built on a brownfield incurring no land costs it makes what would (according to the staffer) have been a 250 Million dollar job into a 450 million dollar job by the end of 2013-5 best case scenario it's a 180% cost over (let's say) 7 years. 80% in 7 years that's better than 8.5% I don't see how these cost overruns can double the CPI
