For mine, Henjak and Shep were the Better Players.

Henjak still had some slow moments from the maul, but I think the weather (and possibly the loose forwards) were more to blame.

Mitchell definitely stepped up from last week, but I'm still scared of our scrum and lineout! Ben Darwin is looking like a legend, these were our steadier components last year and , with little change in personnel, things don't look as solid any more.

Big Congrats to Bambam Pocock for spending what must be the shortest sentence in the sin bin for getting a yellow card at 40:08 in the second half.

WF2006, from what I heard our front row held their own and were rewarded several short arm penalties?

I'm no guru Burgs, but from what I saw, the scrum was often being pushed back or rotated. Never saw them push forward over the Stormers. We were rewarded with the short-arms, but when the scrum got to run its course we looked weaker. (similar to game 1)

This seemed to put a lot of pressure on Henjak and sometimes Fava.

I'd be interested for some of those with a better knowledge of scrumaging that saw the game to put their 2 vCents worth in!

No dramas, I haven't seen the match yet, just going off the penalties etc. Look forward to viewing it soon and hearing from the FRU Members who did see the match.

Well I definately wouldn't claim better knowledge but I agree the set piece is looking shakier this year. The Stormers forwards were woeful in the main but they had our boys' lineout under pressure all night.

The scrum was a little better. But the stormers mostly managed to wheel it to their advantage on their feed and ours.

I'd also be happier if a couple of the boys took some mongrel lessons from Wobber before they run out in Pretoria.

Just watched the game and thought the boys up front did pretty well, although they were being pushed around a lot, probably due a lot to the stormers tighthead not binding properly and screwing in on the hooker at most of the engagements, got pinged a few times, but got away with a lot too...There was a lot of collapsed scrums as well, due also to the incorrect binding from the south african boys and the wet conditions...I feel we are not staying bound for long enough to complete the scrum and this is why it is putting pressure on fava and henjack...All in all, we still need a lot of work to return to last years solid pack, but we are competitive at the moment and i'll take that...
As for line outs, i'm buggered if i know why it has gone to sh*t, they are truly atrocious at the moment and it may be that all the effort on the backs has been at the detriment of line out practice...Opposition teams have a good chance of regaining the ball from our line-outs more often than not which is not good enough in my book...Improve now or we will pay for it ...

ps....Bring back some mongrel, it is sorely missing...Maybe we need a mongrel coach...

Why are you guys so concerned about the scrum? It was the lineout that was killing the force in this game.

Agreed Sage, but someone asked for a review of the scrum and i offered my opinion on this...We seriously need to address the Line-out as it is our weakest link i believe, and better teams will exploit this...

Ah ok that's fair. I didn't see that post.

The Bulls'd be one of the best lineout (or even set peice) team out there, you can't help but worry.

I am seriously worried, and if we don't improve i can't see us keeping much ball next weekend, so Mitch, please make them do extra line-out training this week...

For this week I reckon it will be a case of Keep It Simple Stupid in the lineouts.
Sharpe at 4 to keep big Victor out of the way and throw to Pusey at 2 every time until the confidence comes back.
Forget this new age shuffling around, forget even trying to make it any type of surprise, just whoever is currently throwing better (even if that is Holmes) and throw it to Pusey in a standing lineout.

I downloaded a copy from the 'net via bit torrent. If you have the bandwidth (and patience, although it is usually faster than thepostal service) to download a gigabyte video file I can point you in the right direction...
