WA GETS STATE OF THE ART 70,000 SEAT RUGBY STADIUM
thats what i wrote for "Headlines you are not likly to see in the West Australian"
hopefully im wrong
Wait so this stadium is going to be rectangular?
Every forwards dream is to become a back...
it doesn't say...

But the article does refer to Eagles and Dockers Memberships so don't hold your breath that this stadium is going to be rectangular.
The only hope rectangular stadium users have for a Large capacity Stadium is if WA gets the Commonwealth Games, and what's the chances of that?

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
unless they make it retractable ?

Hmmm, Coach, I may contest your backyard bid, and offer my own (so long as Collingwood never plays there).
But first, I'll need a kick-ass powerpoint presentation indicating the nearby facilities such as the shady olive tree and the barbecue, all within a easy walk of the back door.
70,000 sounds good to me!

I thought I would add this link to an article recently published in NZ on the Eden Park development. Comparing the costs against what Burswood have to say is interesting
Comment on original post......Don't be fooled by Burswood saying that the purchase cost of the land doesn't count. It still needs to be added into the equation as an asset that is being used.

I'd like to see that done here in Perth if it is possible - that's one hell of a transformation!“At Eden Park, for $320m, we can complete a world-class, 60,000 seat stadium, with vastly improved transport facilities, in time for the Rugby World Cup.”

The quality of stadium at Eden Park will be shit, I would hope for an infinite improvement. Also a consortium such as PBL would be pressured to provide some funding and would probably donate the land to the state government.
The aspect is though, that Burswood gets increased takings and the land being used as a stadium, increases people through the casino gates.
Just to state this venue will be oval, although it may have retractable seating.

Wasnt there a bit of controversy with NZ stadium for World Cup at Eden Park because they promised the world but delivered temporary seating to lift the capacity to 60,000 which will be taken out once world cup is over???

Yep, I just got back from Auckland and the fallout there has been huge - governmental backflips have lead the vocal media to question whether hosting rights to the cup are in jeopardy because of inadequate stadia...and since the Kiwis lost hosting rights in the past they are scared it could happen again.Originally Posted by SWRugby
As for the ongoing Burswood debate - the Dome was supposed to close before residents moved into the Peninsular (Burswood) and will close once the new indoor stadium is complete - this was by agreement with the Peninsular residents. I do agree with many others here tho - if you buy into an entertainment district you gotta expect that it will sound like one!
Subiaco oval doesn't seem to have impacted upon the real estate values in Subiaco, and I am yet to hear of a protest against retaining the facility there!
I'm sure Australia would be ever so keen to pick up hosting the world cup if NZ can't get it together!!!!![]()

We were in NZ for a short trip in January. Apart from all the fallout you mentioned, I noticed that there were calls for an official enquiry as to why their general building costs are so much higher than ours. If that's true it would seem improbable that they could do it for the price quoted above. Maybe Egan's right even if he didn't say whyOriginally Posted by blindsid3

I don't want to pour cold water on all of this but I suspect that we will finish up with a poorly re-hashed Subi oval, despite all of the 'public consultation'. I am, I'm afraid, a complete sceptic when any politician opens his/her mouth.
