In his 4 years in Super Rugby (2 for the Brumbies, 2 for us) he's not ousted the incumbent 10. Maybe the coaches, who watch him train every day, feel he's come along as far as they can take him, and a change of scenery might be required. But he is only 24, and I'd have thought still growing into the role.
Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
So we sign lance, who has struggled find a place in the tahs or reds lineup in any position, to replace Holmes the specialist 10?
If he is any better than Holmes or Sias then great but good luck to the coaches if they know that lance is a better bet than Holmes or Sias at 10 based on lance's current form.
Shame for Holmes, he would have expected I think more game time coming from the Brumbies, the only option for him now is Japan or Europe.

I've gotta say, Zack looked bloody good in the moments he got for the Brums, Maybe it was having Bernie coach him, maybe it was team structure, maybe it was some other form of bias on my part, but he hasn't reached those heights here!

Two points:
1) Agree, the Brumbies backline is and was always awesome, easy to get carried along when others open spaces for you. Here he has had to try hard to get through defences with no relatively few openings being made for him.
2) I like Holmes and I not sure that Jono Lance is his replacement, I suspect it may be for Paddy Dellit who also comes off contract and that would be a centre for a centre which makes more sense.
Not knowing the full story, for all we know it may be Holmes looking to do something other than rugby and maybe only looking to play at NRC and club level in the future or even him asking to move on
Simon Cron: “People talk about winning and losing all the time and they are critical, but there’s a process to get into and it’s the ability to stay present, do your job and execute skills under pressure.”
who's saying Lance will be at 10?
I suspect he'll play at 12 with Luke at 10 and Godwin at 13 and Tapui at 15
or Luke at 10, Godwin at 12, Tapui at 13 and Lance/DHP at 15 (Oh that sounds good!)
WESTERN FORCE MEDIA RELEASE
Monday, 18 May 2015
JONO LANCE HEADS WEST FOR 2016
NSW Waratahs utility back Jono Lance will join the Western Force for 2016, after signing with the Western Australian club for two seasons.
Lance, who can play flyhalf, centre and fullback, was a starting member of the Queensland Reds’ 2011 Asteron Life Super Rugby championship-winning team, before joining the NSW Waratahs ahead of the 2014 season.
The 24-year-old son of former Canberra Raiders rugby league captain, Dean Lance, has represented the Australian Under 20 (2010) and Sevens squads (2010/2011).
Lance says he’s excited to have the opportunity to represent the Force from next season.
“I’ve played with a lot of players at the Force previously – guys like Luke Morahan, Ian Prior, Heath Tessmann and Dane Haylett-Petty – at school or grade rugby,” he said. “Speaking to them, they all say how much they love living in Perth and how much they’re enjoying their footy at the Force, and it’s something that you can’t help but want to be a part of.
“Luke Morahan’s one of my best mates and he says how much he enjoys living over there, and how much he loves being a part of the squad at the Force – it’s a great group of guys that get along really well, and it’s important to have that in a rugby team.
“The team obviously had a very impressive season last year in recording nine wins – the best season in the Force’s history. This year, it’s easy to get caught up in wins and losses, but for me personally, it’s been important to see how the guys are playing for each other and really pushing in every game. It’s important how they continue to stick together and I’m keen to be a part of that moving forward.
“Over the past few seasons I’ve sat in the wings behind a number of Wallaby five-eighths, Wallaby centres and Wallaby fullbacks. I’ve grown and learned a lot from them over the last few years but now I’m really to keen make a position my own, and I’d want to be able to use what I’ve learned to contribute to the team moving forward.”
Head Coach Michael Foley says Lance will add another quality option in the Western Force backline.
“Jono’s a tough competitor who will provide additional versatility and depth across our backline,” he said.
“With an ability to play 10, 12 and 15, Jono is also a strong goal-kicker and is hungry for an opportunity to play regularly in Super Rugby."
The Force returns from its bye this week to face the Highlanders at the Force Field’ (nib Stadium) on Saturday, 23 May.

That's what I was thinking too. To me he still looks like there's aspects of his game which are able to be developed. I always found it odd that a young Western Australian player had to leave WA to get a Super Rugby start, so I wonder if there may be something behind the scenes we don't know about?
I love the idea of there being Western Australians in those pivotal roles in the team. Louwrens, Burton, Holmes, Godwin, Haylett-Petty, Koteka- its fantastic. I honestly wish we could have done more to keep Longbottom and had him and Hoskins together in the front-row.
Some may say that the emphasis on WA will weaken the team in the short term, but I don't really think we can get any worse.

I wonder if Zack Holmes would look into 7s for the Olympics. He has played a bit of 7s before, hasn't he?
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
Yep, he played for Australia while with the Force academy

Any of the local rugby pundits on this forum know what the full-strength WA State team looks like nowadays? Like what they would have selected for the old Australian Rugby Shield or WA State games?
