The drawback would be the overlapping seasons Cricket season is still going strong when the Super 14 starts.

I dont think Rugby players would enjoy being tackled on that Pitch square

Back home in Wagga we had a club which had its home ground in the centre of a velodrome, which was also home to the main cricket club with a beautiful turf pitch...Every winter when you played there you preferred rain as you would choose a quagmire over a dry and broken up surface where anyone falling got sliced and diced, and i don't mean by rucking...So i agree that rugby and cricket pitches are not something deemed compatible...

The WACA being in the very enviable position of actually owning the land they are situated on.

It is, but they would still be subject to council approval and the the PCC is probably more political than parliament.
